Team Leader Training

Develop your skills in delivering effective operational leadership and how to support a unified response to emergencies.

  • For selected experienced practitioners on UK-Med’s register.

  • Four-day course

  • Developed and hosted by UK-Med.

About this course

Our Team Leader Training is one of two leadership courses that we offer. The other is the Medical Coordinator Course which deals with the clinical and technical side of a response, but in certain circumstances both roles may be filled by one person.

The Team Leader plays a crucial role in ensuring that a UK-Med response can be delivered in a safe, effective and efficient way. It’s a demanding position which requires a specific and significant depth of experience in medical provision and humanitarian health programmes.

What you will learn

By undertaking this course:

  • You’ll learn about WHO Emergency Medical Team (EMT) methodology and the UN Cluster System
  • You’ll develop your leadership skills
  • You’ll practise your emerging skills in coordinating a response and liaising with the media
  • You’ll have the chance to roleplay as a Team Leader in a deployment scenario.

How you will learn

This course takes place online, over four consecutive days. There’s a blend of self-directed study plus a timetable of virtual classrooms and workshops. It’s a highly structured and intensive course. You’ll have opportunities for group discussions and periods of reflection throughout the course. On the final day, there is a live tabletop exercise. This will help you to put your new knowledge into practice in a carefully controlled environment, supported by UK-Med’s experienced trainers.

Who this course is for

You’ll be looking for opportunities to engage as an active member of the UK-Med leadership pool. These training opportunities are offered based on the needs of the register as we build up a core team of experienced leaders.
