UK-Med / Membership FAQ’s

General Questions

Do I need to be a member of the Community of Practice to volunteer with UK-Med?

Yes – registering with the Community of Practice is the first step to taking part in training and deployment opportunities

How much experience do I need to join one of the UK-Med programmes?

The amount of experience required is dependent on the programme. As a general guideline, we would require a minimum of 2 years’ experience post qualification. Member selection for programmes is based on experience outlined on your CV.

Can I be a member of the UK-Med Community of Practice and volunteer for work with other organisations?

Yes – being a member of the UK-Med Community of Practice does not preclude you from working or belonging to other organisations. Gaining humanitarian experience by working with other organisations is a great way to improve the likelihood of selection for UK-Med opportunities.

How often should I update my CV?

Your CV should include your current and past employment, qualifications and relevant experience, and should be updated at least once a year with current responsibilities, duties and any other applicable information.

I’m currently studying and would like to apply to work experience or an elective with UK-Med. Is this possible?

At this time UK-Med is not able to offer work experience or elective placements for students. Please check the ‘Work at UK-Med’ page for updates and new opportunities.

I’ve submitted an application to join the Community of Practice but I haven’t received my log-in details yet?

All applications are reviewed as part of the joining process. If your application is accepted, you will receive your log-in details within 5 working days. Please remember to check your spam/junk folder, as this is an automated email that can be easily missed.

What should I do once I’ve received my Community of Practice log-in details?

The next step is to complete your profile, including contact information and an up-to-date CV. This is to ensure that you receive relevant information on training and programme opportunities.

I’ve forgotten my Community of Practice account password. What should I do?

Please use the ‘Forgot my password’ function, which can be found on the log-in page. If this doesn’t solve the problem, please contact enquiries@uk-med.org

I already have a Community of Practice account but when I try to log in I get a message saying my account is inactive, why is this?

Please email enquiries@uk-med.org for further assistance
