Using our unique access to UK medical expertise we respond to calls for specific medical and coordination experts. We work with academic bodies to apply research to humanitarian responses and support clearer career pathways for humanitarian health workers – ensuring people affected by disasters receive the highest quality care.
In March 2019 UK-Med travelled with other UK Emergency Medical Team (UKEMT) partners to work with WHO on the health response in Beira, Mozambique, following Cyclone Idai. Key staff were seconded into coordination roles, managing a health response that served a population of 1.2 million people affected by the cyclone.
