Communications and Media Manager

Can your communications and media expertise help UK-Med provide life-saving humanitarian health care?

Role:                      Communications and Media Manager
Salary:                   c. £30,000
Hours:                   Full time
Duration:              1 year fixed term contract with potential for extension
Location:              UK-Med Office, Manchester, UK and overseas travel

Humanitarian health needs are growing. We are seeking a skilled and passionate communications / media professional to help us grow and develop our membership and donor base in order to meet these needs. Our medical teams respond to disasters around the world and we work with local emergency teams to build their resilience to future threats. Our work has never been more vital, with disasters becoming more frequent, complex and severe. Can you help build a world prepared to help?

This role will drive communications for the entire organisation – across traditional and social media, online and offline. You will be responsible for developing communications for a broad range of audiences – the public, our members, partners and supporters. You will maximise media opportunities, working closely with the Department for International Development to demonstrate the impact of work funded by UK Aid. During a response you will be the key point of contact in the field, organising interviews, developing and gathering content.

Our ideal candidate will have at least 3-5 years’ experience in communications, journalism, PR, copywriting, marketing or a related discipline. The role will sit in the Fundraising and Communications team, and work closely with all departments. An expert communicator, you will have excellent IT skills and be a confident user of MailChimp, WordPress, PhotoShop and video editing software or other equivalent programmes. This is a deployable role and you will be asked to join overseas responses and so experience of gathering content in a humanitarian field environment or global health setting would be a distinct advantage.

An accomplished story-teller, you will put our patients and members at the core of our communications. This role will be key to delivering our ambitious growth, and is an opportunity to play a significant part in the development of an exciting and unique organisation delivering emergency healthcare to some of the world’s most vulnerable people. You will be adaptable, creative, collaborative and able to think strategically. Your flexible, can-do attitude, energy, resilience and commitment to UK-Med’s humanitarian mandate will mean you thrive in a fast-paced environment.

We offer a competitive salary and benefits along with a friendly working environment and the opportunity to make a real difference through humanitarian work. UK-Med is a growing and developing organisation with a committed team of staff, volunteers and members. This role is a truly exciting opportunity to craft the communications for this unique NGO.
