Course duration: 0.5 days
Course aim: On completion of this training participants will have gained confidence and first-hand
experience in using the equipment in a walking blood bank and will understand the parameters
within which a walking blood bank could be set up on a deployment.
Course description: This practical workshop gives clinicians experience of using the UK EMT equipment that will be
available in the event of a deployment where a Walking Blood Bank is required. The training covers
the use of the Eldon card as a means to identify a person’s blood grouping and then go into more
detail on the use of the specific blood bags required for the WBB. There will also be the opportunity
to practically test these skills on a training arm.
CPD points: 3.5 hours CPD points
Eligible specialities: Emergency department nurses, midwives, intensive care nurses and critical care
paramedics.
