About this course

Our Essential Skills for Integrating a Mental Health and Trauma-Informed Approach course is an innovative training designed to enhance your skills to work effectively with communities that are impacted by disasters and conflict. It has been designed and open to all UK-Med’s Register members who wish to have a deeper knowledge, skills and abilities in basic mental health skills. The live online session focuses on the experience of UK-Med’s Gaza response to offer meaningful examples and practical applications of skills.

What you will learn

By undertaking this course:

  • You will be able to describe why and how it is important to use a trauma-informed approach in emergency response.
  • You will understand the key characteristics of psychological trauma and ongoing stress and its effects
  • You will apply foundational knowledge for realizing and recognizing the prevalence, effects, and paths to recovery of trauma and ongoing stress
  • You will understand and apply basic psychosocial support skills to consistently implement principles of a trauma-informed approach during disaster responses
  • You will have the knowledge and skills to support your own physical and mental health and well-being

How you will learn

This course is a blend of self-directed learning and live session. You will be required to go through some pre- training resources and attend one live session with our specialized trainer.

This course has been designed to equip members of UK-Med’s Register and deployable core staff with knowledge, skills and abilities to integrate a Trauma-Informed approach into your work during an EMT response. It is an innovative training designed to enhance your skills to work effectively with communities that are impacted by disasters and conflict.
