Why research matters in humanitarian settings

Why research at UK-Med?

UK-Med conducts rigorous, collaborative research to improve humanitarian healthcare. Our studies strengthen clinical decision-making, shape policies, and inform practice across emergencies worldwide. Through partnerships with academic and field organisations, we generate evidence that drives more effective, ethical, and life-saving responses.

Our Research Priorities (2025–2027)

To focus our impact, we’ve defined six key research themes aligned with the most urgent challenges in humanitarian health:

Outbreak Prevention & Immunisation

Emergency & Primary Care in Crises

Mental Health & Psychosocial Support (MHPSS)

Chronic Care & Continuity (NCDs)

Community Engagement & Behaviour Change (RCCE)

Operational Research & Ethics
