It’s vital to have robust safeguarding procedures. Safeguarding is about having guidelines and policies for the actions we need to take to promote the welfare of potentially vulnerable people and to protect them from harm. These three courses offer comprehensive and in-depth training for all members and core staff.
The courses will introduce you to safeguarding in a humanitarian context. In particular, they offer comprehensive information on UK-Med’s safeguarding policies and procedures. The reflection session has a focus on peer and group-based learning activities, and puts the knowledge gained from the self-directed learning into practice in role-play situations.
After undertaking these courses, you’ll understand the concept of safeguarding in the humanitarian sector, and its importance. You’ll be able to actively contribute to implementing UK-Med’s safeguarding policies, and you’ll know how to react to safeguarding concerns. In the final course, the live online reflection session, you’ll have the opportunity to discuss safeguarding cases and dilemmas, and you’ll carry out two role-plays to give you some direct experience of safeguarding concerns.
Safeguarding Essentials is a self-directed online course that takes around one and a half hours to complete. It has been developed by The Humanitarian Leadership Academy.
The Introduction to UK-Med Safeguarding Course is also online and self-directed, and will take one and a half hours for you to complete.
Finally, the Safeguarding Reflection Session is a live online event that will take around one hour. You’ll choose from a list of dates and times. On this course, there will be up to twelve participants with two facilitators.
