We are delighted to announce that David Whitney has joined UK-Med as its Chair of Trustees. Having spent the last fifty years as a leader across the public, university and not-for-profit health sectors, he brings a wealth of experience to the role, along with an understanding of the importance of our work.
He spoke to us about his thoughts regarding his new role:
“With the global number of people requiring humanitarian aid being something in the order of 330 million, an organisation like UK-Med plays a crucially important role in delivering emergency medical care across many parts of the world and is growing a strategy which demonstrates the organisation’s aspirations to have an even bigger impact.
“I am on a fast learning curve regarding the challenges facing UK-Med and identifying where I might be able to add value; I have already been privileged to witness first-hand the inspiring and remarkable work being delivered by UK-Med mobile primary care and trauma teams on the frontline in Ukraine. UK-Med exists to deliver such services in areas of conflict and disaster, and this will always be my main focus and priority.
“I don’t underestimate the different challenges of joining an organisation like UK-Med, but I have always enjoyed working with clinicians and supporting them in delivering high quality medical care both in the UK and abroad and I shall relish the opportunity to continue to do so.”
