UK-Med Induction and Safeguarding training pathways for members of the UK-Med register

We are pleased to announce the launch of two new training pathways that form the core training for all members of the UK-Med Register.

For those who are invited to attend a Selection Training as part of their recruitment process, these training pathways will need to be done in advance as they provide important background information for participants during the Selection Training.

The UK-Med Induction training pathway provides a broad introduction to the practicalities of working in a response with UK-Med, the UK Emergency Medical Team (UK EMT) and standard safety and security information when working in a humanitarian response.

The UK-Med Safeguarding pathway provides a comprehensive awareness of the principles and approaches to safeguarding in the humanitarian sector, as well as introducing specific policies and procedures that apply when working with UK-Med, including the protection of vulnerable individuals, reporting of concerns, and understanding roles and responsibilities.

Completing these courses is a requirement to participate in a response and other training courses.

Why did UK-Med launch these pathways?

We want to ensure that all members have access to the same high standard of training and learning, regardless of which selection process they completed or when they joined the UK-Med Register.

We encourage you to complete this training as soon as possible, so that you remove a barrier to participating in a future response.

How do I complete these pathways?

Each of the pathways is made up of two to three separate activities, as detailed below:

UK-Med Induction training

  1. UK-Med induction (e-learning course)
  2. UN BSAFE course (e-learning course). Note: BSAFE needs to have been completed within the last 2 years

UK-Med Safeguarding training

  1. Safeguarding Essentials (e-learning course)
  2. Introduction to UK-Med Safeguarding (e-learning course)
  3. Safeguarding reflection session (live online session, see details below)

These e-learning courses are self-directed, so you do not need to wait for an invitation and can start right away.

Important note: The UK-Med induction course is currently undergoing development to reflect our new organisational strategy, and we have temporarily locked access to this course to avoid you needing to unnecessarily repeat it.

Those who are deploying will be invited to complete the current course as a requirement.

Safeguarding reflection session

The Safeguarding reflection session is a live session that will be run on specific dates. Complete this application form to indicate your availability. Places will be allocated first come, first serve.

You will need to complete the Safeguarding Essentials and Introduction to UK-Med Safeguarding e-learning courses before the session.

How do I access these courses?

To access the courses, you will need to log on to UK-Med’s e-learning portal, Kaya:

  • If you already have an account on Kaya, you can access the UK-Med portal here. The access code is TUMGVQ (this changes often, so please get in touch with learning@uk-med.org if it does not work).
  • If you do not already have a Kaya account, please access Kaya here, click the “Create Account” button, and follow the instructions.

If you encounter any difficulties accessing the training, please contact learning@uk-med.org

  • UN BSAFE – Approx 1 hour
  • Safeguarding Essentials – Approx 1.5 – 1.5 hours
