Advanced Safeguarding

Enabling you to take on greater responsibility for safeguarding procedures in a UK-Med response.

  • For UK-Med Register members after undertaking the Core Safeguarding Pathway
  • Duration to be confirmed
  • Developed by UK-Med in collaboration with Safer Edge.

About this course

This is a non-mandatory course that follows the compulsory Safeguarding Pathway that all UK-Med Register members undertake. The course is a blend between self-directed learning and live sessions delivered by safeguarding experts, and has an in-depth focus on safeguarding procedures and reporting. Course participants will be equipped and eligible to take on the role of Safeguarding Focal Point in UK-Med responses.

What you will learn

The Advanced Safeguarding Course focuses on the role and responsibilities of a designated Safeguarding Focal Point in the field. Safeguarding Focal Points are expected to actively contribute to the implementation of UK-Med’s safeguarding policies and procedures, and to undertake risk assessments. After the course you’ll know when and how to escalate concerns. You’ll maintain a survivor-centred approach throughout.

By undertaking this course:

  • You’ll learn how to effectively receive safeguarding reports and how to conduct a trauma-informed interview
  • You’ll learn how to create your own resilience plan and how to follow and implement well-being techniques
  • You’ll understand how to identify, assess and mitigate safeguarding risks in different UK-Med deployments
  • You’ll know how to strengthen safeguarding practices in different locations by using a safeguarding plan.

How you will learn

There is a mix of e-learning sessions and a live session. There are a maximum of fifteen participants for each session. The final session is self-directed and will take you around one hour to complete. This consists of six scenarios, each taking eight to ten minutes to work through. This format ensures you’ll be encountering these safeguarding dilemmas in a safe space so you can learn at your own pace without fear of making mistakes. The e-learning provides feedback to deepen your understanding of the nuances and sensitivities of safeguarding responses.

Who this course is for

The Advanced Safeguarding Course is for UK-Med Register members who have completed the Core Safeguarding Pathway who either aspire to be able to fulfil the role of Safeguarding Focal Point on responses or who have a keen interest in strengthening their knowledge and skills within safeguarding.
