The Ebola virus disease (EVD) outbreak in North Kivu and Ituri provinces, Democratic Republic of the Congo is continuing. As of the 2nd April there had been 1100 cases and 690 deaths. You can read the full WHO situational report here.

Over the last eight months World Health Organisation have been supporting the Ministry of Health and partners with the Ebola response, and UK-Med is supporting with the recruitment to key roles.

READY project

Recent outbreaks, such as the current Ebola outbreak in DRC, demonstrate the importance of strengthening global capacity to respond. In relation to this important area of work, UK-Med is a partner on the READY project, funded for three years by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA).

UK-Med is working closely with other Surge READY partners (Save UK and Mercy Malaysia) around planning how the READY grant will support with global outbreak response.  There is a meeting planned in Malaysia in late April, where more detailed joint planning will take place across partners to look at a number of issues including training and surge support.
