Gaza | Ahmad: The road to recovery

JUNE 2025:

12-year-old Ahmad was in a critical condition when he arrived at UK-Med’s type II field hospital in Al-Mawasi, Gaza. He had a severe leg injury, the result of a nearby airstrike.

His father and older brother were injured in the same incident.

Ahmad was rushed to the operating theatre for emergency surgery to save his right leg. His family feared the leg would need to be amputated, but UK-Med’s specialist surgeons, working under intense pressure and with limited resources, succeeded in saving it.

Ahmad remained hospitalised for almost two months, undergoing multiple surgeries.

Thankfully he is now on the mend and is now having regular check-ups and physiotherapy, along with his father, who also required complex surgery.

They are recovering together, and Ahmad hopes to play football again when his leg is strong enough.

JULY 2025:

Look who’s back! And there is a reason he is smiling!

Ahmad is on the mend, and his external fixator has been removed.

He is super happy about it and wanted to try walking straight away but was convinced to start slowly and use the crutches.

He can’t wait to finally be able to play football again. Attending the UK-Med outpatient clinics and continuing his rehab is the next step.
