Update from the team in Mozambique

Last week the Department for International Development sent a team to liaise with the World Health Organisation (WHO) and Ministry of Health in Mozambique, to look at the next stage of the health response following the cyclone, which has hit millions of people across Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe.

Since arriving in Mozambique the team has been hard at work and we wanted to provide a brief update.

Jon Barden, who is leading the Department for International Development health assessment team in-country, has recorded a short video here where he comments on the situation in Beira.

There are no plans to deploy the UK Emergency Medical Team at present. The assessment team in-country have identified need around primary health care and potential support to the cholera outbreak.

Rachel Fletcher and David Wightwick of UK-Med along with Pete Skelton of HI, are supporting the WHO’s coordination work in Beira as noted  in a tweet from the Director-General of the World Health Organization and MailOnline.
